The Senate’s vote on the additional COVID relief is uncertain.
On Monday, the House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to pass an increased direct payment to Americans. President Trump called on lawmakers over the weekend to pass $2000 in aid to eligible Americans. The House voted 275-134, surpassing a veto-proof two-thirds vote to increase aid dollars.
However, the legal process stalled out in the Senate on Tuesday. The proposed streamlined vote was turned down by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. $600 payments have already begun to be deposited into American’s bank accounts, and physical checks will begin to be mailed out on Wednesday according to the Department of the Treasury.
